Iowa Smash Invades Kansas City- Results from Midwest Net WARZ, 8/13/11

Over the weekend, Iowa drove a caravan of 7 players to Kansas City for Midwest Net WARZ, a Smash tournament hosted by perennial Kansas tournament host, Delux. While unfortunately I was not among them, I find this worthy to report for two reasons. First, Iowa outnumbered every other state at this tournament. This fact is not only hilarious to me, but it also makes this tournament a de facto Joker's Monthly due to the August edition of said monthlies being canceled. Second, one of Iowa's players did very well-- taking first in Brawl doubles teaming with MJG. Results after the break.

Perhaps not the strongest showing overall for Iowa. A lot of our players still need to prove to themselves and to me that they can perform outside of the friendly confines. Brandon "Bpow" has made quite the progression from just a year ago. I challenged him to show results at bigger tournaments with better players, and coming off a strong singles performance at Brainshock Beta and this doubles win, he has earned my full respect. Now all that is needed is consistency. The above 13th place finish is indicative of that fact.

Noticeably, this tournament marked the return of two of Iowa's most veteran players, Peeks and Zash. It seems their time away has not been kind to their gameplay, but I'm sure they can be back in proper form if they keep attending events. Videos from this tournament will be posted later separately.
